Terms of use
Last updated: 7 November 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Tiff. Please read them. Nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.
The short version
- You need to be 18 or over to use Tiff.
- Your content stays yours. We only use it to run Tiff for you and your partner.
- Be kind, and don't use Tiff to harm, pressure or control anyone.
- The AI judge is for fun. It isn't advice of any kind.
- Tiff is free to use. Tiff Plus is an optional subscription: one of you pays and you both get it. You can leave or delete your account whenever you like.
1. About us and these terms
Tiff is provided by Smart Build Technologies Ltd ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. You can contact us at support@tiffapp.co.
By creating an account or using Tiff, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data.
2. Who can use Tiff
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You can be in one shared space at a time, with one partner.
- You must give us accurate sign-in details and keep your phone and Apple ID secure. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
3. Your shared space
A shared space belongs to both of you. Anything you add can be seen by your partner, apart from the things Tiff keeps private until they're revealed (court sides until both are filed, swipes, surprises, mystery dates and spark answers). Some things need both of you to agree, such as locking in a decision, starting a challenge, changing your home time zone or sharing your partner's content outside Tiff.
Either of you can leave at any time. When someone leaves or deletes their account, the space becomes read-only for both of you for 30 days so you can download what you want, and is then permanently deleted. See the Support page for the details.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you add to Tiff: your words, photos and plans.
So that we can run Tiff, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, copy, process, display and transmit your content, only as needed to provide Tiff to you and your partner. That includes showing it to your partner, making your downloads, sending a case to our AI provider when you use the Courtroom, and passing notification text to our notification providers. We don't use your content for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't use it to train AI.
This licence ends when your content is deleted from Tiff, apart from copies that stay for a short time in routine backups.
You confirm that you have the right to add what you add. In particular, only upload photos of other people if they'd be happy for you to.
5. Acceptable use
Tiff is a playful space for two people. Please don't:
- use Tiff to threaten, harass, frighten, monitor, pressure or control anyone;
- add intimate images of anyone without their consent, or anything that sexualises children;
- add anything illegal, hateful, or that infringes someone else's rights (such as copyright or privacy);
- pretend to be someone else, or join a space you weren't invited to;
- try to access other couples' data, get around Tiff's privacy features, or probe, scan or test our systems without our written permission;
- copy, reverse engineer or resell Tiff, or use bots or scripts with it; or
- use the Courtroom in bulk or in automated ways, or try to make the AI produce harmful content.
If you see something on Tiff that worries you, email support@tiffapp.co.
6. The AI judge
The Courtroom uses artificial intelligence (Claude, from Anthropic) to give light-hearted verdicts on small, everyday disagreements.
- It's for fun. A verdict is entertainment, not advice. It is not relationship, legal, medical, financial or mental health advice, and it's not a substitute for talking to each other or to a professional.
- It can't know the truth. It only works from what you both wrote. It can be wrong, unfair or odd, and it doesn't decide anything for you.
- It won't rule on serious things. If a case suggests violence, threats, control, abuse, self-harm or fear for someone's safety, the court won't give a verdict and will show support information instead.
- It has limits. To keep costs fair, there's a monthly limit on cases, and the court may sometimes be "on a break".
If you or someone else is in danger, call 999. You can find UK helplines on our Support page.
7. Price and Tiff Plus
Tiff is free to use. Tiff Plus is an optional subscription that adds more court cases, unlimited Scrapbook photos (within fair use, so nobody can fill our storage), more than one mystery date or challenge at a time, collages, Wrapped any time and a small heart on your profiles. There's no free trial.
Price and renewal. Tiff Plus is £6.99 a month or £39.99 a year in the UK (Apple shows the price in your currency before you buy). You pay through your Apple ID when you confirm. It renews automatically at the same length and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Cancelling. Cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. You keep Plus until the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms.
One payer covers both of you. Plus applies to the shared space of whoever pays, so their partner gets it too, at no cost. It belongs to the person who pays: if you both happen to subscribe, one of you can cancel.
Leaving, or when Plus ends. If your space closes, Plus goes with the person who pays, to their next space. When Plus ends, nothing you've made is deleted. Anything over the free limits stays; you just can't add more of it until you're back under the limit or subscribe again.
8. Changes to Tiff
We're always improving Tiff, so features may change. We'll try to give you notice before we remove something important. If we ever close Tiff completely, we'll give you reasonable notice so you can download your content first.
9. Our responsibility to you
We'll provide Tiff with reasonable care and skill. Because it's a free service that we're continually developing, we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or suitable for every purpose. We recommend using "Download everything" to keep a copy of anything you'd hate to lose.
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable, for business losses (Tiff is for personal use only), or for things outside our reasonable control.
If faulty digital content we provide damages your device or other digital content, and that's because we didn't use reasonable care and skill, we'll either repair the damage or pay you compensation.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited under the law of England and Wales, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Tiff at any time. To remove your data, use Delete my account in the app (Us → Our space).
We may suspend or close an account if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, if we need to for legal reasons, or to protect someone's safety. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first and explain why. If we close Tiff or your account for a reason that isn't your fault, we'll give you a chance to download your content.
11. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Tiff or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If Tiff fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, which may refund any price you paid for it (Tiff itself is free to download); otherwise Apple has no warranty obligation for Tiff. Apple isn't responsible for any claims about Tiff, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims; those are our responsibility to the extent these terms say so. You must also follow Apple's terms when using the App Store and Tiff. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app before an important change takes effect. If you don't agree with a change, you can delete your account.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you have a complaint, please contact us first and we'll try to sort it out. If we can't, you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts where you live.
If any part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest still applies. Nobody other than you, us and Apple (see section 11) has any rights under these terms.
